BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk has returned to games to join augmented reality game developer Biba as chairman of the board.
Zeschuk left the Mass Effect developer in September 2012 after 17 years with the company after revealing he no longer had the passion he once had for BioWare, games and development.
He has now returned to games two and a half years later however to work on new apps designed for children and outdoor play. To this end, Biba has also partnered up with sport and recreation equipment provider PlayPower.
Biba states it wants to design games designed for ‘refereed play’, where the phone is mostly used by the parent. The premise of its initial games will be to transform playgrounds into the wreckage of robot spacecrafts that have crash-landed on Earth, where players must interact with their own companion robot and explore the playground.
“Biba’s mobile games designed for outdoor play are just a breath of fresh air,” said Zeschuk.
“PlayPower and Biba are creating a new category, an inventive way to blend our new media habits with the health benefits and joy of active outdoor play. I am inspired by the category as a game designer and father.”
