Burger King's range of value meal video games, developed by a team at UK's Blitz Games, have sold over two million units in the US.

Blitz’ BK games crowned with 2m sales

The fast food giant – which is considering releasing the games in the UK and other territories – says that the three games are ‘the best-selling collection of games published for the Xbox and 360’ this Christmas.

The trio Pocketbike Racer, Big Bumpin’ and Speed King shifted an accumulated two million via Burger King restaurants in just four weeks.

"Consumers have come to expect the unexpected from Burger King Corporation so their appetite for these games is not entirely surprising," said Chris DiCesare, director of Xbox partnership marketing.

"We’re elated that our effort to pair two iconic brands has succeeded in providing Xbox owners with a fun diversion this holiday."

The games are indeed fairly unique – totally bankrolled by Burger King, they were originally pitched and commissioned as Xbox Live Arcade advergames (so each game has 200 gamerpoints’ worth of achievements) but quickly made the transition to a boxed proposition when the fast food firm wanted to cater to both 360 and original Xbox owners. Each game disc features two versions of the game, one for the legacy format and one for the next-gen one.

Blitz put what was in essence six SKUs together in just seven months, as revealed in the November issue of Develop.

"We created the BK Xbox games as a unique form of all-family interactive entertainment, and we’re thrilled with the response thus far," said Russ Klein, president, global marketing, strategy, and innovation, Burger King Corporation.

"Most video games are considered a blockbuster when they reach the one million mark in sales, and this collection has achieved twice that."
