Blizzard mulling World of Warcraft microtransctions

Premium in-game items are being considered for World of Warcraft, according to a Blizzard rep.

Community representative Jonathan Brown wrote on the possibility via Battle.net forums – specifically noting that only certain regions are being considered for the additions at this time.

We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game. As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses.”

Polygon points out that an experience-boosting spell was found on one of the games public test servers, which caused the topic to bubble up in the first place.

The MMO king has skidded significantly in the past couple years, most recently losing 1.3m subscribers during the first quarter of 2013.
