Blizzard settles Overwatch trademark dispute with Innovis Labs

Blizzard has settled a trademark dispute with Innovis Labs over the use of the Overwatch name.

Polygon reports litigation proceedings were dimissed upon Innovis filing paperwork last month – in which the company stated it was handing the trademark over to Blizzard.

What specifically happened for the settlement to take place hasn’t been made public at this time, but McArthur Law – a firm that observed the dispute – speculates Innovis accepted a large sum from Blizzard to keep things out of the courtroom.

In other Overwatch news, Blizzard has announced it will be opening up its upcoming multiplayer shooter to a lot more players” with its first stress test of the beta this weekend.

During the Beta Test Weekend, all players (including those currently in the Closed Beta) will have access to the full roster of 21 heroes and a limited selection of maps: Hanamura, King’s Row, and Watchpoint: Gibraltar,” a post on Battle.net reads.

Since this is a stress test, we’re primarily interested in your technical feedback, like how Overwatch runs on your system, your experience with the beta servers, critical bug reports, and other game-impacting problems. One of our goals is to push our hardware to the limit, so don’t be surprised if you experience performance issues or run into unexpected downtime—that’s all part of the process.”

Overwatch is scheduled to officially launch in the first half of 2015 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
