Spiritual Castlevania successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has become the most funded video game in Kickstarter history.
The project is currently sitting on $4,265,467with a day and a half to go. That puts it above the previous games record holder, InXile’s yet to be released Planescape Tormet successor Torment: Tides of Numenera.
If Bloodstained hits $4.5m developer Koji Igarashi will make a prequel mini-game for consoles and PC.
The game was looking to raise $500k, a number it hit within a day of going live. It is currently now on track for a release on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, Vita and PC.
Gaming is no stranger to Kickstarter records. Back in 2012 Android console Ouya raised over $8m to become the then best performing campaign ever. Since then card game Exploding Kittens has set records both for the number of backers and highest-grossing game project.
More recently Project Yooka-laylee claimed the record for most funded UK video game on the service previously held by Elite: Dangerous.
Of course, outside of Kickstarter there’s a clear winner when it comes to crowdfunded video games. RSI’s Star Citizen has to date raised over $83m.
