Developer Gearbox Software has revealed that it was in talks with Nintendo to bring the next instalment in the Borderlands franchise to Switch, but the platform’s holder didn’t carry on with the discussion.
That’s according to Gearbox’s founder Randy Pitchford, as spotted by IGN, who was asked on Twitter to give his opinion on the Nintendo Switch running Unreal Engine 4.
He first answered: We have Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on nVidia Shield, so why not?”. Then the fan went on explaining that his Switch purchase will be contingent on if it will play Borderlands 3”, to which Pitchford answered (see below): I do not see that as happening. We were talking to Nintendo, but that stopped for some reason. They have other priorities.
Borderlands 3 was first announced in January 2015, with publisher 2K stating the game will skip the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to release on next-gen consoles only. But with 2K’s parent company Take Two being part of Nintendo’s third party partners for the Switch, things could still change for Borderlands 3 as far as the Switch is concerned.
There’s no release date for this next instalment though, but it is highly awaited since Borderlands 2 is 2K’s best-selling game, with over 12m units sold.
