Project aimed at bringing back the glory days of Medal of Honor and Call of Duty 2 exceeds £100,000 goal

Bulkhead’s WWII shooter revival Battalion 1944 passes Kickstarter goal in under three days

Bulkhead Interactive believed that players wanted to see a return of classic-era shooters – and it appears it was right.

The studio took to Kickstarter last week to finance development of Battalion 1944, an online FPS which aimed to ‘recapture the core of classic multiplayer shooters and propel WWII into the next generation’.

Drawing comparisons to Medal of Honor (before it went all modern-day military), Call of Duty 2 and Enemy Territory, Battalion is being built with Unreal Engine 4 for PC, Xbox One and PS4 and will prioritise skill over what Bulkhead criticised as ‘unfair overpowered unlocks and abilities’.

Fewer than three days after the studio made its call to revive the genre, Battalion’s Kickstarter campaign surpassed its £100,000 crowdfunding target – which Bulkhead vowed to match with an equal amount of its own money.

At the time of writing, the amount raised is actually almost double its initial goal, sitting at £173,000.

“Thank you for backing Battalion 1944,” said producer Joe Brammer.

“The team you’re investing in are ready to build the next big first-person shooter. We couldn’t have done it without you, the community.”
