345,000 people went to Gamescom last week

The number of visitors at this year’s Gamescom rose year-on-year.

345,000 people attended the Cologne-based trade show, an increase of 10,000 on last year’s attendance figures. These visitors came from 96 countries.

Of that figure, 33,200 were trade visitors – an increase of five per cent year-on-year.

806 companies from 45 countries turned up – a 14 per cent increase.

"The signs for a successful Gamescom were very positive and the results have definitely exceeded our expectations,” Koelnmesse president and CEO Gerald Bse said.

The growth in the number of visitors and exhibitors and the expanded exhibition surface combined with the measures to improve the quality of the event are important components for the permanent and sustainable success of Gamescom. We are very satisfied with Gamescom 2015, because we were once again able to offer the trade visitors an international industry meeting place and gaming fans from all over the world a unique event."

Dr. Maximilian Schenk, MD of the BIU added:"Gamescom has reached the next level – it has not only experienced further growth this year in terms of the exhibition space and the numbers of trade and private visitors. Thanks to many new events and campaigns, it has also become even more diversified this year. It is a reflection of the increasing significance of computer and video games in our society.

"Gamescom has impressively confirmed its exceptional position as the world’s largest event for computer and video games and Europe’s most important business platform this year."
