505 Games secures PC publishing rights for Death Stranding

505 Games has revealed it is partnering with Kojima Productions to bring Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding to PC in “summer 2020”.

The news confirms Sony will only retain exclusivity over the highly-anticipated supernatural title for an estimated six-month period.

“We are extremely excited and honoured to be working with the supremely talented team at Kojima Productions and to bring Death Stranding to PC gamers around the world,” said 505 Games co-founder and CEO Raffi Galante via a press release. “Death Stranding will take gamers through a completely original experience that will delight PC gamers everywhere.”

505 Games has not elaborated on the deal it struck with Kojima Productions, nor specified any further details of the publishing deal but promises more news “in the near future.”

Developed by Kojima Productions, Death Stranding – which was revealed way back in 2016 – is one of the most anticipated games in years and stars Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Léa Seydoux with additional appearances by Guillermo del Toro, Conan O’Brien, and Geoff Keighley. It will release on PlayStation 4 on November 8th, 2019.

Death Stranding is Kojima’s first game since his public departure from his prior employer, Konami. He was “contractually forbidden” from discussing his split with Konami, but did say at the time: “If you’re only focussed on the profits immediately in front of you, the times will leave you behind. It becomes impossible to catch up again.

“When working in big companies, especially Japanese companies, every little thing has to be approved beforehand, and you need paperwork to do anything. Now that I’m independent, I can do what I want with much more speed. I don’t need to invest time in unnecessary presentations. I shoulder the risk.”

505 Games is a subsidiary of Italian entertainment company Digital Bros. It describes itself as a “global video game publisher focused on offering a broad selection of titles for players of all ages and skill levels”.
