Adele demolishes Call of Duty as 2011’s biggest entertainment property

Singing sensation Adele sold over 1m more copies of her latest album than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The FPS loses its crown as the UK’s biggest entertainment property in terms of units sold, although it remains No.1 in value. Call of Duty topped the same list in both 2009 and 2010.

The entertainment chart – published by ERA – reveals that the Top 40 selling products generated sales of 48.2m units last year, which is actually 1.5 per cent up compared with 2010.

Nineteen titles sold over 1m copies in 2011 compared with 18 in 2010. On average every UK household should have at least two of the 40 titles, according to ERA.

It is important to stress, however, that the music data includes sales of digital products. Games digital sales are still not tracked. Who knows where Angry Birds may have come?

The number of games in the Top 40 has dropped year-on-year. There were nine games in 2010’s chart, but only seven this year. However, five games sold well over 1m units.
