After EA, Sony increases game prices in India

After EA announced that it was increasing prices for its upcoming console titles to Rs 2,999, Sony has now increased the prices for some of its older releases, including the Platinum range.

While budget-priced Platinum titles such as God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Infamous 2 have received a Rs 100 increase to Rs 1,799, newer releases such as Twisted Metal and the Uncharted Trilogy Edition have also been priced higher.

On the Playstation Vita, the only game to get a price change is Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which increases from Rs 2,799 to Rs 2,999.

Sony is yet to announce the prices for its upcoming releases. The platform owner will soon commence local replication of PS3 games, which could negate the impact of import duties and currency exchange rates and therefore allow at least first-party PS3 games to maintain lower prices.

Here’s the list of Sony’s games to get price hikes (brackets include old prices):

  • Twisted Metal (PS3) – Rs 2,299 (RS 2,199)
  • Uncharted Trilogy Edition (PS3) – Rs 3,299 (Rs 2,999)
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) – Rs 2,999 (Rs 2,799)
  • God of War 3 (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 1,699)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 1,699)
  • Sports Champions (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 1,699)
  • Infamous 2 (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 1,699)

EA price adjustments

EA too is upping prices for some of its older releases. Here again, the PS3 Platinum range goes up from Rs 1,699 to Rs 1,799, but that aside, a few PC games have also seen an increase in MRP.

  • Need for Speed: Shift (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (RS 1,699)
  • Need for Speed: Undercover (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (RS 1,699)
  • Shift 2: Unleashed (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (RS 1,699)
  • Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (PC) – Rs 599 (Rs 299)
  • Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 1,499)
  • Battlefield Bad Company 2 (PC) – Rs 599 (Rs 499)
  • Medal of Honor (PC) – Rs 799 (Rs 699)
  • The Sims 3 – Rs 799 (Rs 699)
  • The Sims 3: World Adventures – Rs 799 (Rs 599)

These price increases could be, at least in part, due to the recent changes in duty structure levied on console and PC games.

It’s not all bad news though, as some other EA titles have received price drops, with PS3 games like Medal of Honor, Need for Speed: The Run, and Grand Slam Tennis 2 dropping around 40 per cent from their Rs 2,999 launch prices to Rs 1,799.

  • Medal of Honor (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 2,999)
  • Need for Speed: The Run (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 2,999)
  • Grand Slam Tennis 2 (PS3) – Rs 1,799 (Rs 2,999)
  • Need for Speed: The Run – Rs Rs 1,099 (Rs 1,499)
  • FIFA 11 (PC) – Rs 399 (Rs 699)
  • FIFA 12 (PC) – Rs 799 (Rs 999)
  • FIFA 11 (PSP) – Rs 799 (Rs 999)
  • Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (PSP) – Rs 799 (Rs 999)
