Amiibo sales nearing 710,000 in the US

Nintendo has said that unit sales of its Amiibo figures are nearing 710,000 in the US.

IGN reports that the platform holder added that Amiibo sales are roughly the same as unit sales of recent Wii U release Super Smash Bros.

Link has proved to be the most popular figures, followed by Mario and Pikachu.

The first wave of interactive figures went on sale on November 21st.

Yesterday MCV reported that the mystery continues regarding Nintendo’s plans for the long-term future of some Amiibo figures – specifically Marth, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager.

The platform holder has issued conflicting statements to the public and press. GameStop, Toys R Us and VideoGame Plus have all said that all three models have been discontinued while Nintendo has gone on record both the confirm and deny discontinuation.
