Another Pokemon fan project is forced to shut

Just four days ahead of its long-awaited release, Nintendo has seemingly moved to shut down yet another Pokemon fan project.

Pokemon Prism had been in development for eight years and was due to finally launch on Christmas day. It was based on the old Game Boy Colour Pokemon adventures. Its popularity had been boosted by a partnership with Twitch plays Pokemon.

Pokemon Prism has been cancelled,” the game’s lone developer said on Facebook. Thank you all for your support throughout the years. I’m sorry it ended like this. I will make a longer statement regarding this soon, but expect this page to be shutdown in a few days.”

Also posted online was a copy of a cease and desist letter that appears to be from Nintendo, which reads:

Nintendo understands that you are a fan of its original products and its Pokmon franchise. Whilst this is appreciated, it unfortunately does not alter Nintendo’s important role to ensure that all of its valuable intellectual property is fully protected and that there is no use made of any of its intellectual property rights without proper supervision and authorisation.”

Fellow fan project Pokemon Uranium was shut down in August after a decade’s worth of development.
