Consumers can now get a refund on any digital purchase made from Apple, no questions asked.
Apple last month quietly altered its European iTunes terms and conditions to allow for the return of any digital purchase from iTunes or the App Store within 14 days of purchase.
Until now all refund requests were dealt with on a case-by-case basis, with Apple making the final call as it saw fit. This remains the case in the US.
The change is to comply with new European digital retail rules that give consumers the right to a refund on all purchases, even if they are digital.
Legally a company is not required to issue a refund if a ‘performance’ of the product has taken place – i.e. an album has been listed to or a video watched. But Apple appears to have applied the rules in a broader sense.
