BAFTAs become consumer show

The Video Games BAFTAs have undergone a significant change in announcing that next year’s events will welcome consumers into the mix.

The next British Academy Games Awards will take place on March 12th 2014 at a new venue, Tobacco Dock London. The event will for the sixth year running be hosted by Dara O’Briain, with a nominee’s party taking place at BAFTA headquarters the night before.

Free nominations will be open for the first game entered by each company by Monday October 21st, after which paid for nominations will be available until November 11th.

The BAFTA Games Awards have consistently celebrated the amazing achievements of the creative teams within games,” BAFTA’s Games Committee chairman Harvey Elliott stated.

The new venue of Tobacco Dock and the welcome addition of public access to the event will enable us to showcase the talent and excellence of our industry to a whole new passionate gamer audience.”

Dara O’Briain added: I am delighted to return for my 6th year as host of the BAFTA Games Awards. This year the awards move into a new venue and a new level, to celebrate an industry which has quietly taken its place as the largest entertainment industry in the world.

It’s a pleasure then, once a year, to loudly sing the praises of the talented teams, many of them UK-based, who bring such excitement, story and spectacle to our phones, our computers and into our homes. I’d tell you more, but frankly, these zombies aren’t going to kill themselves.”
