Battlefield is the latest game to be given the TV show treatment.
Paramount Television and production company Anonymous Content, which recently worked on TV series The Knick, have acquired the rights of EA’s title, Variety reports.
It’s actually not the first time that a Battlefield TV series has been announced as a similar project was revealed back in 2012with Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison at the helm.But the project did not come an end.
EA executive vice president Patrick Sderlund commented: Battlefield is one of the most loved properties among our players. We are thrilled that Anonymous Content and Paramount TV will look to introduce fans to Battlefield through a new medium.”
Anonymous Content’s executive producer Michael Sugar, who will lead the project alongside Ashley Zalda, added: Battlefield has a tremendous built-in, engaged fan base, making it a highly coveted piece of IPprimed for long-form adaptation.
Together with EA and Paramount TV, we’ll develop the Battlefield TV series with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success fornearly fifteen years.”
Battlefield is not the first game property to make the leap to television, as a Mirror’s Edge TV series has been announced by Endemol earlier this year. Meanwhile, Activision revealed that aSkylanders TV show is on its way to Netflix this autumn, amongst others.
This Battlefield TV series is announced ahead of the release of Battlefield 1 in October. The game’s trailer was the most ‘liked’ ever when it launched on YouTube. Talking to MCV in June, Battlefield 1’s creative director Lars Gustavsson said that the title’s First World War setting was a ‘perfect fit’ for the series.
