Bethesda makes Doom’s paid DLC free for everyone

Bethesda just released a new update for Doom, version 6.66, bringing a wealth of changes to the FPS.

In a blog post, the publisher announced it has retired” Doom’s Season Pass, making all the DLC free for all players. That’s three multiplayer DLC packs, which include nine of our best maps, three additional guns, three additional playable demons, new equipment, armor sets and more,” the announcement reads. The Season Pass used to set consumers back 29.99, or 11.49 to buy each pack individually.

In addition, Bethesda has revamped the multiplayer progression system, with gamers now able to chase specific content (guns, equipment, demons) through in-game challenges or by meeting some level requirements. Until now, the game’s unlock system was random.

Other changes include a new Runes System to replace the Hack Module System and several fixes, that you can read about on Bethesda’s website. The publisher also announced a free trial this weekend, with players being able to purchase the game for 11.99 after that.

Bethesda joins a growing list of publishers choosing the drop the premium DLC model, starting with Ubisoft for Rainbow Six Siege (as we discussed with VP of live operations Anne Blondel) and some of Watch Dogs 2’s content. EA’s Titanfall 2 also launched without a Season Pass, with free updates available to all players, and so will Star Wars Battlefront 2.
