Brazil looks for global GTA recall

In what comes across as a somewhat ambitious move, a Brazilian court is seeking an injunction that looks to not only block global sales of GTA IV expansion Episodes from Liberty City but also recall all previously sold units in every country around the world.

Kotaku reports that the dispute concerns the use of the track ‘Daniel Haaksman – Conga Kid feat. MC Miltinho’ in the Ballad of Gay Tony soundtrack, which is said to illegally sample Hamilton Loureno da Silva’s ‘Bota o Dedinho pro Alto’.

Sao Paulo’s Civil Court is now looking to place an injunction on Rockstar Games and Synergex Brazil. It seeks damages of $3,000 per day for each day that the game continues to be sold.

Interestingly, as well as recalling boxed sales of the expansion the Court also wants to recall digital copies – though quite how this would be achieved is a mystery.

Rockstar has stated that it has not received any notice from the Brazilian court on this matter.
