Capcom outlines aggressive European expansion plans

More staff, more ‘Western’ product and more solid relationships in Europe are all top of the agenda at Capcom, says senior director of marketing Michael Pattison.

After a few recent staff changes at the UK office of the Japanese publisher, Capcom has come out fighting with a renewed recruitment drive and commitment to signing up more titles that will shift major numbers in the US and UK.

We’re entering new genres and targeting new demographics with sports, racing and family titles, adding to our core-gamer focused releases,” Pattison told MCV.

On the development front Capcom is working with a number of Western-based developers such as GRIN in Sweden for Bionic Commando and US based studio Airtight Games on the recently announced Dark Void.

There’s a lot of talent in the West and Capcom is always looking to work with the best talent.”

And that top talent is already in the process of being sniffed out, claims Pattison. From a personnel perspective there is an on-going review of staff which is a continuous process, not unique to Capcom. If there is talent out there looking for an opportunity to work with a well-respected developer and publisher then of course we’re interested.

Pattison added that Capcom also has some surprises up its sleeve: It’s no secret that Capcom plans to expand aggressively in Europe. We have a very robust line-up over the coming months and years and I think people will be surprised by what we have in the pipeline.”
