CD Projekt announces 16 bits of DLC for The Witcher 3 – and they’re all free

In a world where Season Passes and DLC releases come at a huge premium and are often announced before a game is even out, this is quite a surprise.

CD Projekt has revealed not only that it will release 16 bits of DLC for upcoming RPG The Witcher 3, but also that every single one of them will be free.

This applies to all formats and both physical and digital versions and are not tied to pre-orders or specific game SKUs.

The first two releases – horse armour (really!) and some new hair for protagonist Geralt – will arrive one day after the game’s release on February 24th. A further two bits of content will then be released every week for the next two months.

We love updates constantly improving the experience, and we feel really special when we receive free content that gives us more than we initially paid for,” CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwi?ski said. It doesn’t have to be huge, it can be an awesome skin for a character, or an extra sword, or armour.

Unfortunately this treatment is quite rare these days. As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached. Haven’t we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game?

We strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game.”
