Christoph Hartmann appointed VP of Amazon Game Studios

Amazon Game Studios has a new vice president – former president of 2K Games, Christoph Hartmann.

Hartmann’s new role sees him heading up Amazon’s internal game dev teams across three cities, with a focus on the likes of New World and Crucible – two titles in development at the retail giant’s games division.

Hartmann’s tenure at 2K – a label he helped to create – ended back in 2017, where he had been in place for over a decade, bringing in huge licenses like NBA and WWE, as well as overseeing launches of titles such as Bioshock and Mafia.

“Between the teams at [Amazon Game Studios], the incredible tools and technology from AWS, the global communities of Twitch and Twitch Prime, and all of the other assets around Amazon, there are few companies in the world set up to take gaming to the next level,” Hartmann said in a statement.

“I am incredibly proud and honoured to become part of Amazon’s highly talented and passionate group of people, to develop together hallmarks of gaming, bring amazing experiences to people all over the world, and build a gaming legacy for the years to come.”

Progress from Amazon Game Studios has been slow as of yet, and known properties such as Breakaway have seen high profile cancellations before anything had really been shown of them.

The ambition at the studio remains sizeable, however, with industry veterans like Hartmann joining the likes of Westwood co-founder Louis Castle, and Rich Hilleman, once creative director at EA.
