Cloud Imperium adds another $300 ship to Star Citizen

If you’re concerned that developer Cloud Imperium’s bank account is running a little low, another high-cost vehicle has been added to the game’s store.

The Vanguard can now be purchased for $300. The heavy fighter comes with lifetime insurance and some hangar decorations… but is not actually playable as of yet. Said CI: "The ship design meets our specifications, but it is not yet ready to display in your Hangar or to fight in Arena Commander."

The price doesn’t make it the most expensive ship in the game, however. That prize is awarded to the

$390 Constellation Aquila. It is also beaten by the Retaliator ($360), the Constellation Andromeda ($330) and the Redeemer ($318).

"The Vanguard trades the manoeuvrability of the Hornet, Lightning and Gladius for extended range, armour and durability. With more hardpoints and increased space for onboard computer systems, the design can boast improved radar and a credible electronic warfare suite," the ship’s description explains.

"In combat, the Vanguard’s roles are extensive: long range jump scout, extended duration patrol/reconnaissance ship, fighter-bomber (when equipped with torpedoes), tactical command and control ship, bomber interceptor and, in the proper hands, even a fighter-killer. The Vanguard’s extensive range can allow for missions lasting days or even weeks. Internally, the ship is fitted with sleeping berths and reclamation facilities to support such missions."

Other premium options include the Constellation Taurus ($240), Hornet Tracker F7C-R ($186), The Freelancer Max ($186), the Hornet Ghost F7C-S ($168), the Cutlass Red ($162) and the Freelancer ($150) to name but a few.

Star Citizen to date has, via crowdfunding, risen $77.3m from over 850k backers. Suddenly we can start to see why!
