Standalone title to be released on XBLA, says Microsoft's Larry Hryb

Alan Wake ditches retail for digital

A new game in the Alan Wake franchise will be digital only, director of programming for Xbox Live Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb has said.

He added that the standalone title would be released on the XBLA.

“We can confirm that this new ‘Alan Wake’ game will be a fully standalone experience and released on Xbox LIVE,” said Hryb on his twitter account.

It is not known whether the title will be released in an episodic format, DLC or as a full game.

Finnish developer Remedy said that it would remain tight-lipped about further information on the title till it makes an official announcement at the Spike Video Game Awards next month.

Third-person thriller Alan Wake was released on Xbox 360 in March last year to and sold 145,000 units in its first two weeks.

The game has a rating average of 83 on metacrtic from 100 reviews.
