August Xbox One update adds 3D Blu-ray support and remote downloads

Microsoft has outlined the additional functionality heading to Xbox One next month, and a big Blu-ray functionality boost features as part of it.

The console’s August patch will add support for 3D Blu-ray movies – beating PS4, which itself is a big surprise considering the weight Sony put behind its 3D push on PS3.

Users will also be able to turn off notifications during videos and turn on low battery notifications.

Also on the way is the ability to purchase Xbox Live content on Xbox.com or via SmartGlass and have the download pushed onto their consoles.

Other additions include new ways to interact with folks via their activity feed and an expansion for the Friends area in Home. OneGuide is also coming to Ireland, Austria, Brazil and Mexico.
