Castlevania dev’s new Kickstarter doubles $500,000 goal on first day

Castlevania developer Koji Igarashi went to Kickstarter less than 24 hours ago looking for $500,000 to fund his new title, the campaign currently has over $1m pledged with no sign of slowing.

At time of publication, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has garnered more than 15,000 backers – meaning the campaign is averaging well over $60 per backer.

The game will be a 2.5D action-platformer focused on exploration and built on Unreal Engine 4 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Inti Creates – the studio working on Keiji Inafune’s Mighty No. 9 and Wayforward Technologies’ Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – will handle development.

Bloodstained still has 31 days left to tack onto its impressive launch day total. The campaign currently only displays stretch goals up to $1.25m, a target likely to be reached in a matter of hours, with the rest having already been met.

The $850,000 stretch goal is worth noting in particular, as it means voice actor David Hayter of Metal Gear Solid fame will join the project.

Igarashi’s new effort is currently scheduled for release in March 2017.
