Long-awaited release features new multiplayer mode

Denki’s Quarrel finally comes to XBLA

Casual word game Quarrel is to finally be released on XBLA after UTV Ignition Games agreed to publish the title on the console.

The game will be released on Xbox Live Arcade on January 25th, complete with a new multiplayer mode, two years after the Scottish studio originally tried to release it on the platform.

“At last console owners will be able to revel in a full-on 3D HD Quarrel experience with exclusive ways to play, including the awesome Xbox Live multiplayer mode,” said Denki creative director Gary Penn.

“I’m like a sugar-fuelled child on Christmas Eve and can’t wait to put my finely honed word war skills to the test against the rest of the world.”

Denki has experienced a string of set backs in trying to bring Quarrel to market over the past two years, finally finding a publisher in UTV Ignition in June last year to release the game on iOS.

Prior to that announcement, the studio had struggled to find a publisher for the title, which eventually led to the independent developer forced into axing 25 staff and a major restructuring of the company.

Co-founder Colin Anderson at the time blamed publishers for not investing in quality games, or even calculated risks, but in to “low risk” titles.

He claimed that the studio had come to the conclusion that the industry believed word games would not sell on Xbox Live Arcade.

In 2011, Quarrel won the Best Game award at BAFTA Scotland.
