Green Man Gaming finally goes live

Gamers can now for the first time trade in their digitally downloaded titles with the official, albeit slightly delayed, launch of Green Man Gaming’s ecommerce portal.

The service arrives with 500 games from 26 publishers. Current offers include Broken Sword 3 for 3.99, Ninja Blade for 19.99 and the award-winning World of Goo for just 1p.

Unique to Green Man Gaming is the ability for users to trade in the registration codes for games they have bought through the site. Users aren’t able to choose between pre-owned and new codes when buying titles. Instead, the price of individual titles falls as more codes for it are traded in.

In much the same way as it works on the High Street, the price offered for traded in codes depends according to the current level of demand.

Games purchased on the site use the controversial SecuROM DRM but will not require users to be online to play.

Current publishing partners include Namco Bandai, Midas, 1C, Focus Home Interactive, PlayLogic and JoWood. The likes of EA, Activision, Ubisoft, THQ, Rockstar and Sega are currently in negotiations with the firm.

We are delighted to have launched with a penny game sale and are amazed by the response from customers across the globe,” Green Man gaming COO Gian Luzio stated. As the service went live we were surprised by the initial rush of customers from Japan and India.

We launched with a small selection of titles to ensure it worked and I’m glad to report that everything has run smoothly and we will be adding more titles and fantastic sales promotions over the next few days.”
