‘Kinect 2 will be so accurate it can lip read’

Microsoft’s next generation Kinect device will be so accurate that it can lip read, it has been claimed.

Sources speaking to Eurogamer said that the device would also be able to detect emotions through the user’s tone and facial expressions.

Whilst featuring improved motion sensing and voice recognition, the Kinect 2 will also be able to send more information, offering a higher resolution charge-coupled device.

"It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, what do you want to do with it?" the source said.

The next generation Xbox, rumoured to be announced next year, will reportedly come in two different forms, with a cheaper set-top like machine and a more fully featured console with an optical drive, hard disk and backward compatibility to be released.

Develop understands that Lionhead is working on a project internally named ‘Fable Next’, which will launch with the console, whilst another source has said that an EA studio already has rudimentary Xbox console technology on desks. EA however denies these claims.

The Xbox 360 has sold more than 55 million units worldwide since its release in October 2005.
