Team Ico-developed title 'revealed too early'

Last Guardian still coming to PS3, says Sony dev

The Last Guardian is still coming to the PS3, a developer working on the project has claimed.

Speaking to Kotaku, the Japanese dev, who asked not to be named, said the title was definitely still in development despite numerous problems afflicting the game.

The developer also claimed the title was still being made for the PS3, and had not been moved to the PS4.

"I give you my word that it exists," claimed the source.

"We are working on it."

The Sony developer admitted the project had probably been revealed to the public too early given then “ambitious” nature of the title.

He added however that The Last Guardian’s exclusion from the Tokyo Game Show was likely down to Sony’s recent reluctance to promote games till they are close to release, rather than the well documented problems of staff departures and development troubles on the game.

"There are lots of pieces of the puzzle," said the developer.

"It’s a matter of getting them to fit together."

Since the title’s first reveal in March 2009, The Last Guardian has yet to be seen in playable form, with Sony Worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida admitting the game had suffered from a “very tough technical issue”.

The games development has also been affected by a number of high profile departures from Team Ico including The Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda and Shadow of the Colossus producer Kenji Kaido.

Despite leaving Sony however, Ueda is said to still be “committed to completing” the title, and is working on the project on a contract basis.
