Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask re-make for 3DS confirmed

After what feels like years of rumours, Nintendo has at last confirmed that N64 cult classic The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is being ported to 3DS.

The game was originally released on N64 back in 2000 and still stands as one of the more unique entries in the Zelda series, with players sending Link on a time-travelling crusade to stop a moon crashing into a planet.

It’s all a bit Doctor Who, in some ways.

It was a follow up to many people’s all-time favourite Zelda title Ocarina of Time and has for a long time been the most requested port for Nintendo’s current handheld.

"As we worked on the remake version, we set out to maintain the original level of challenge, while keeping the game accessible for anyone," Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata said. "We also focused on making sure the gameplay experience was as smooth as possible."

Also confirmed is a Special Edition version of the game for Europe that includes a poster, badge and metal case.

Majora’s Mask is due out in spring 2015.
