Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD remaster uncovered on Wii U

Following in the footsteps of Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask and Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess could be set for a revamp.

That’s the story building as fans uncover clues pointing towards a HD re-release of the 2006 Wii and GameCube Zelda instalment.

Firstly, a shop icon for Twilight Princess was uncovered in the depths of the Wii U eShop, sparking rumours over a potential HD remake or release on Nintendo’s Virtual Console.

The former possibility was strengthened by the subsequent reveal of the title ‘Twilight Princess HD’ on the Nintendo eShop servers.

Remakes of N64 Zelda titles Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask came to 3DS in 2011 and early this year, respectively.

Meanwhile, a HD remaster of cel-shaded GameCube entry Wind Waker hit Wii U in 2013. Wind Waker was the last console Zelda game released before Twilight Princess.

Nintendo had previously discussed the chance of HD remasters of Twilight Princess and follow-up Wii effort Skyward Sword.

If the Twilight Princess HD remaster proves to both be real and to have a release date this year, the port will partially fill the gap left by the delay of the currently untitled new Wii U Zelda game to 2016.
