LEGO City Undercover to receive a multiplatform re-release

Former Wii U exclusive LEGO City Undercover is to be freed from its shackles for a remastered re-release on a number of new consoles.

Not only is it coming to Nintendo Switch, but it’s also due out on PS4, Xbox One and Steam. The current release date is spring 2017.

There are a number of questions still to be answered. The original game was designed very specifically to make use of Nintendo’s twin-screened Wii U set up. In fact, it was one of the few titles to not allow off-screen play as the second screen was so heavily utilised. In bringing the game to other platforms, a lot of reverse engineering will be required.

Also, speaking on Twitter LEGO has also said it will at some point reveal how it is handling the many Nintendo references that were scattered through the game.

LEGO City Undercover was first released in 2013. It reviewed strongly, but being a Wii U title its commercial impact was limited.
