Mojang’s smash hit Minecraft has eclipsed the 7m mark for units sold on its original platform alone.
The PC sales figure is just the latest in a string of significant milestones for the title, which smashed XBLA records when it debuted on the 360 earlier this year.
More than 7 million minecraft (pc) copies sold,” Mojang’s Danei Kaplan shared on Twitter. Thank you all Minecrafters around the world showing such dedication and support.”
Last month it was revealed that the XBLA version had sold 3m copies, and just today Minecraft’s console developer 4J Studios revealed plans for a new, larger update for the version in the works.
We’re working on the 1.8.2 update, and deciding what to bring forward from 1.9 and beyond,” 4J Studios teased on its Twitter feed. Many weeks of work to do yet, so not out soon.”
4J’s Stuart Ross further teased the update by mentioning that Ender Pearls (no teleportation function), a Creative Mode, and other unique surprises that may not even exist in the PC version yet.
