Miyamoto dismisses retirement claims

Legendary Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto has assured fans that he will not, as a recent interview implied, be retiring from Nintendo in the near future.

The gaming world lit up yesterday when an interview with Wired appeared to quote Miyamoto as saying he was retiring from triple-A games development to focus on smaller, internal projects at Nintendo.

Nintendo itself quickly released a PR statement that denied it, though rumours have persisted.

Now Miyamoto himself, talking to the Wall Street Journal, has finally rubbished the claims for good.

We have to construct the structure so that the organization so that it can make it without me,” he confessed.

I should also admit that it might be better without me; I mean that a different approach and different talent might emerge, though I shouldn’t dwell on this because then the article might indeed say ‘Mr. Miyamoto is thinking about retiring,’ because that is not the case.”
