Miyamoto thinks Starfox is Wii U’s most underrated game

This year’s Star Fox Zero has been named as the Wii U’s most underrated game by legendary Nintendo developer Shigeru Miyamoto.

I think personally Star Fox is a really fun game if you sit down and play it,” Miyamoto told Game Informer. I think, for example, an elementary school kid who plays it without any preconceived notions, I think it would be really fun for them. I think it’s also really, really fun for siblings to play it together."

The game has had mixed reviews, with plenty of praise (it scored 80 per cent at Metro, Examiner, God is a Geek and a number of Nintendo sites) but also lots of criticism (GamesRadar gave it 2.5/5, Giant Bomb 2/5 and Jimquisition 2/10).

It currently has a 69 per cent rating on Metacritic.

In the same interview, senior product marketing manager of Nintendo of America Bill Trinen named Pikmin 3 as his top Wii U pick: It’s probably one of my favourite games in the last six or seven years. I think that hardly anyone realizes that the multiplayer bingo battle mode was literally the best new multiplayer mode that has been created since Smash Bros. It is so much fun.”

Miyamoto is also a fan, claiming that modern play patterns sometimes preclude gamers from realising a game’s true potential: Pikmin is the kind of game that you have to play maybe three times to get the full effect, but you know, people don’t have a lot of time, so they just clear the stage and just move on.

Games are becoming more of a consumable product, and it’s getting harder and harder for people to let a game to sink in and enjoy leisurely.”
