Nintendo acquires Fatal Frame publishing rights – Report

A report has claimed Nintendo has now acquired co-ownership status of Tecmo Koei’s horror IP Fatal Frame.

Rely On Horror reports that Nintendo has recently changed its copyright status to confirm the move and at the same time has fully acquired Fatal Frame’s spin-off IP Spirit Photography. It now has exclusive publishing rights for both series.

If true, the most obvious consequence is that Fatal Frame will from this point onwards become a Nintendo-only franchise, preventing any future releases on Xbox or PlayStation hardware.

The series debuted in 2001 on PS2 and Xbox though the most recent release, Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen, was a Japan-only Wii release.
