Obama: ‘Turn off the video games’

It was Fathers’ Day yesterday. It’s the one day of the year when dads across the world are in theory given licence to ignore their endless list of chores for 24 hours and put their feet up.

Unless you’re an American. If you’re from the good ol’ US of A Fathers’ Day is about doing the right thing. Promoting freedom. Buying a gun. Sticking to the speed limit. Eating fast food. Whooping at pictures of soldiers. Denying knowledge of any land laying outside of your own borders.

And banning evil, filthy video games.

"We know that every father has a personal responsibility to do right by their kids," president Obama told the nation in his Fathers’ Day address, as reported by Spong.

"To encourage them to turn off the video games and pick up a book; to teach them the difference between right and wrong; to show them through our own example the value in treating one another as we wish to be treated. And most of all, to play an active and engaged role in their lives."

Say what you like about our own Tory boy David Cameron – at least he’s a true gamer.
