PlayStation store charts for 2016 put Rocket League out on top

Rocket League a big digital winner in 2016, according to Sony’s end of year charts

Sony has released official end of year charts for the PlayStation Store, and it appears the biggest success story of 2016 was Rocket League, despite its release in 2015.

More specifically, it was the "best-selling" title in Europe in 2016 and the "most downloaded" title in the U.S, because the charts were titled differently. This success is significant, because Rocket League was handed out to PS Plus subscribers for free upon launch in July 2015, meaning that Psyonix’s vehicular kickabout has been so popular with those who missed out the original giveaway, that it outperformed evergreen hits like Minecraft and was stronger than new releases Battlefield 1, Call of Duty and Overwatch.

Of course, in fairness, Rocket League is only available digitally, so you can only pick up a digital edition unlike many of its competitors, but it’s still impressive that it’s heading up the charts for the year.

Talking of charts, here are those.
