Unrest, the new RPG from Jaipur-based Prodactyl Games, has surpassed its Kickstarter funding goal in less than 24 hours.
At the time of writing, Unrest has received funding of $5,744 from 334 backers; that’s nearly double the modest $3,000 funding goal.
Unrest is an unconventional RPG based in ancient India that revolves heavily around its story.It promises a detailed conversation system and gameplay where violence has consequences..
The game aims to, as the developers put it, use the themes of a revolt to emphasise upon social issues while being a fun old-school RPG.
"I’m very grateful for the support I have received. I believe this shows that there is room for an Indian setting in internationally-targetted games. If people can sympathise with stories about elves and dwarfs, they can relate to a story set in ancient India." studio founder Arvind Raja Yadav told MCV.
"This also shows that an RPG can be something different from the usual numbers-and-combat driven style of role playing. Now, we have a responsibility to deliver a great game to our backers, and repay the trust they have shown in us," Yadav added.
Unrest comprises of four chapters, and you’ll play as ordinary people in each of them – a young girl who is betrothed against her will and looking to escape her village; a priest struggling to justify his order’s involvement in religious violence; a mercenary guild leader trying to hold the streets together; and the sole heir to the throne – the princess who lives in slums as a street urchin after the assassination of her parents.
While Unrest has met its funding goal, Pyrodactyl is constantly updating the Kickstarter with more stretch goals, each adding more depth and content to this already expansive game.
Unrest will feature in-depth mod support, allowing players to create new scenarios and change every aspect of the game.
According to the Kickstarter page, the game is currently scheduled for release in February 2014 and will be available DRM-free for PC, Mac and Linux.
