Detroit: Become Human takes No.1 as a trio of new titles lead the charts

Detroit: Become Human takes the No.1 spot in a shaken up Top Ten that has a trio of new games topping the charts.

The game did okay at review (80 per cent at OpenCritic) but has released under a cloud after accusations of inappropriate behaviour towards staff, published by several French newspapers in January. At the end of April, while the game was being previewed, it emerged that Quantic Dream was suing two of those accusers, newspaper Le Monde and the website Mediapart.

Regardless, Detroit: Become Human is now, at week 21 of the year, the 10th PlayStation 4 exclusive to top the UK boxed charts this year. Quite an achievement, especially considering Detroit unseats God of War, another PS4 exclusive that had currently spent the past five weeks at No.1 itself, for pole position.

The sales figures aren’t as impressive compared to some of the other big releases this year, but it was more than enough to relegate State of Decay 2, this week’s No.2 to second place. State of Decay 2 has fared worse in reviews, (68 per cent at OpenCritic) but that doesn’t seem to have scared off the punters, and there’s a healthy jump in sales between this and the week’s third new entry: Dark Souls Remastered, a remaster (obviously) of From Software’s 2011 hit Dark Souls.

Dark Souls Remastered’s Switch release has been delayed until later in the year, so it could see another sales spike later in the year. Currently it’s just about neck and neck with FIFA 18, which is performing well after price activity has seen sales rise by 59 per cent week on week.

In a similar boat is Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition, which has seen several retailers heavily discount the game, leading to a 710 per cent increase in sales and a leap from No.40 to No.7.

Big changes, then. Here’s the boxed chart for the week, ending 26th May. (Data courtesy of GfK/Ukie)
