Disney Interactive has announced its financial results for Q3 2014, revealing a significant increase in revenue thanks to Disney Infinity sales.
Revenue for Disney’s gaming division was up 45 per cent compared to the same period last year, swelling to $266m. Operating income has also recovered from a $58m loss in 2013 to a $29m surplus this year.
Disney attributed the figures to the continued strong performance of Disney Infinity, along with a pair of mobile titles.
"The increase in game sales was driven by Disney Infinity, which was released in the fourth quarter of the prior year, and the success of the Tsum Tsum and Frozen Free Fall mobile games. The decrease in product development costs was due to fewer titles in development and the benefit of restructuring activities,” Disney’s financial statement read.
Counting all divisions, Disney brought in $12.5bn during the three-month period – a new record for the firm.
"We’re extremely pleased with these results and we are also thrilled with the spectacular performance of Guardians of the Galaxy, which holds great promise as a new franchise for our company and once again reinforces the tremendous value of Marvel," Disney CEO Robert Iger stated.
Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes 2.0 Edition (complete with Guardians of the Galaxy figures) launches September 23rd in North America.
