Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng is taking a break from professional League of Legends and therefore will not compete in the 2017 Spring Split.
The news comes after a disappointing performance for Doublelift and his TSM team at Worlds. The team were favoured to do quite well, as the top seed from North America and playing on home soil. However this was not the case and the team failed to make it out of groups.
Doublelift has now decided that he will take a few months off from pro play, instead focusing on streaming for the Spring Split.
I am not so talented as many believe,” said Doublelift. The quality that has kept me domestically dominant for five straight seasons isn’t nature, it’s determination. So many of my peers from Season 1 lacked the fire and willpower to be the best, and they have long faded away. When I do something, I put my heart and soul into it, striving to achieve greatness.
That’s why it’s time for a small break. After our convincing performance in Summer, NALCS Spring is considerably less appetizing. Streaming and creating content is something I’ve always wanted to focus on, and it’s the perfect time to do it. I’ll come back if the team needs me – better than before, and better than ever."
TSM will be holding tryouts for his replacement, with team owner Andy ‘Reginald’ Dinh stating that Doublelift will have to fight for his place on the starting roster should he return in the summer.
