Dragon Quest VII and VIII heading west – report

Another pair of Dragon Quest titles will receive western releases, according to series creator Yuji Horri.

Gematsureports on Horri’s statements at Japan Expo 2015 in Paris over the past weekend, gathering multiple mentions from attendees posting to Twitter.

Horri’s comments suggest the Nintendo 3DS remakes of Dragon Quest VII and VIII will be localized for western audiences soon – though no release window mentioned for the time being.

Square Enix has responded to requests for info regarding the matter with a no comment.”

In an interview withPolygonlast month at E3, Dragon Quest series executive producer Yuu Miyake made it clear that the Dragon Quest team wants to bring as many titles west as they can – indicating that the level of success Dragon Quest Heroes reaches could determine future western releases in the franchise.

"We want to get them out here," Miyake said. "We really do! The Dragon Quest games are very text-heavy, so the time and the cost it takes to localize these and do it well is quite something. Business-wise, we have to think quite hard whether we’ll make that money back from localizing to North America. It’s always been a difficult decision. But the more you tell us, the louder the voices, the more likely we are to do it."

"We’re really using this as a kind of opening up of the market," he explained. "We can gauge whether the American people might want to go back after Heroes and see some of the other Dragon Quest games. Hopefully we could use that as leverage to get those out over here."
