Dragon Quest XI continues to top Japanese charts, while Crash gets lukewarm reception

For the second week in a row, Square Enix’s Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age has claimed both of the top spots in the Japanese weekly chart, according to the latest figures from Famitsu.

Once again, the 3DS version of Square Enix’s successful RPG is proving to be the most popular, selling another 259,000 copies last week to hold its place at No.1. That’s despite sales falling 77 per cent week-on-week.The PS4 version, meanwhile, experienced a drop of 82 per cent week-on-week, but still managed an impressive 166,500 units in its second week on shelves.

Splatoon 2, on the other hand, held onto its place at No.3 last week, selling another 87,000 units. That’s a decline of 32 per cent week-on-week.

Capcom had a particularly good week, with its new Ace Attorney game on 3DS claiming two spots in the Top Ten. The latest entry, Dai Ace Attorney 2: Naruhodo Ryunosuke no Kakugo, debuted at No.4 with 61,000 units sold, while a special edition of the first and second Dai Ace Attorney games entered the charts at No.8, shifting just under 9,000 copies. These titles focus on Phoenix Wright’s ancestor who works alongside Sherlock Holmes to solve cases, but at the moment there’s no sign of a western release for either game.

Crash Bandicoot, meanwhile, finally made his debut in Japan with his N.Sane trilogy, but his reception was much more tepid than it’s been in the west, selling just 19,000 units in his first week.

On the hardware side, the Switch sold another 69,000 units last week, taking its yearly total to just over 856,000 units.
