Dungeon Defenders II set to become PS4’s first Early Access release

In-development co-op RPG Dungeon Defenders II will become the first Early Access release on PS4 when the game’s pre-alpha version arrives for Sony’s console later this month.

A post on the PlayStation Blog by Trendy Entertainment designer and marketing director Philip Asher reveals the game’s Early Access build – currently available on PC via Steam – will launch for PS4 on Setepmber 29th.

"[P]lease note that Dungeon Defenders II is still under development,” Asher states. During this time, some features, like local co-op and controller support, will be ahead of the PC version, but other features and content will be rolling in after they are released on PC."

While the game will be free-to-play upon official release, a virtual currency bundle of $15, $25, or $75 must be purchased to be play the pre-release offering – if the Steam store page is any reference, that would be the Starters Pack, the Defenders Pack and Collectors Edition, respectively.

"Our aim is to provide control to the publishers so that they have the ability to understand where their products are. They have the ability to say 'Okay, I want my product to go exactly here, under these conditions, for this net price, and I don't want it to go elsewhere.' That's essentially what the platform allows."
