The boss of EA mobile has stated that the tech offered by iPhone 6 is ‘on par’ with that seen in PS4 and Xbox One.
"It was a good Christmas morning," he told Games Industry of Apple’s reveal event on Tuesday night. "We got a lot of the gifts we asked for.
One key takeaway is that with the retina display and the improved processor, combined with the Metal [graphics] capabilities and 128GB of memory, that gets you to a device that’s on par with next-generation consoles. That’s moving perfectly into our strike zone."
Apple hasn’t yet been explicit about the innards of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The former has a 4.7-inch 1334×750 pixel display and the latter a 5.5-inch 1920×1080 screen. Both pack a 64-bit custom A8 processor and come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB varieties.
But beyond that we’ll have to wait for a tech site to open one up and examine its innards to know for sure.
One other variable is Apple’s proprietary Metal programming tech that supposedly offers developers greater accessibility to the device, the idea being that improved performance and graphics will result.
In conclusion it certainly won’t be the case that either iPhone 6 will be able to compete with PS4 or Xbox One in raw power terms, but that doesn’t mean that developers will be unable to craft broadly comparable experiences.
