As government increases its efforts in embracing to modern technological world a new video game called MP For A Week has gone live on Parliament.uk – and trade body ELSPA has given the new initiative an official thumbs up.
Aimed at 11-14 year olds, the browser game is intended to give youngsters an insight into a day in the life of a modern day MP on the backbenches.
Players’ popularity in their constituency, within their party or in the eyes of the wider media is scored according to their actions.
We are pleased to see Parliament embracing video games in this way and finally appreciating the relevance of video games in many areas of work and play,” ELSPA director general Mike Rawlinson stated.
We see this as a great example of how games can be a valuable interactive educational tool and reaching out to young people and engaging them with Parliament through learning play is an innovative way of using videogame technology. Such games are an important part of today’s popular culture and this is a logical step to broaden their usage.
Who knows, MP for a Week could just inspire a new generation of MPs – and perhaps even a new Prime Minister in years to come.”
