Japanese 3DS sales rocket as Super Mario 3D Land arrives

Nintendo’s 3DS was given a welcome boost in the Japanese charts last week thanks to the arrival of Super Mario 3D Land.

Sales of the console more than doubled from 65,041 last week to 145,271, according to Andriasang. That’s more than every other console combined.

PSP came second (27,952) followed by PS3 (26,966), Wii (11,725), DSi XL (2,041) and Xbox 360 (1,699).

3DS also enjoyed some rare chart-topping success in the console charts, too, with Super Mario 3D Land shifting 343k units to claim first place. That’s more than the total number of 3DS games sold in Japan in October by a factor of three.

Second and third was claimed by two debutants, too – Sony’s Uncharted 3 (125k) and the PS3 version of EA’s Battlefield 3 (123k). If the sales of the Xbox 360 version are added to this Battlefield 3 sold a total of over 150k.
