Korea named as Gamescom 2012 partner

Korea will be the partner nation for Gamescom 2012, the event’s organising body has announced.

This year Koelnmesse chose the UK, and its trade group Tiga, as the partner nation for Europe’s biggest games event. But next up is Korea, represented by the Korean Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA).

Added to the partnership deal was the announcement that Gamescom’s exhibition space would be expanded to 140,000 square metres.

In the wake of our successful globalisation drive and the establishment of online and browser games [demonstrations at our event], gamescom gains another strong push through partner nation Korea,” said Katharina Hamma, Koelnmesse managing director.

Lee Jae-woong, the CEO of KOCCA, said: Being a partner nation of Gamescom is another important step in our international focus. We are delighted with this collaboration with Cologne.”

Companies such as NCsoft and Nexon already head the list of leading online and browser game distributors at next year’s Gamescom.

The fourth Gamescom event is confirmed to start on Wednesday August 15th, 2012, and will run until Sunday August 19th.

The event will be open to the public from August 16th.
