MCV Awards 2016 Finalist Profiles: Mainstream Retailer

As we countdown to the MCV Awards 2016, which takes place in London on March 3rd, we profile each of the finalists for the Mainstream Retailer category


Big news for Amazon came late last year when SCE UK boss Fergal Gara quit the format holder to take up the role of director of PC at Amazon UK.


Argos list over a thousand video game skus and produces two catalogues a year, with extra space in its Xmas gift guide, plus three games- only special publications three times a year.


Asda remains a strong force in games in the mainstream retailer category, listing all key console formats (hardware and software), as well as a range of accessories.


Very active in 2015 with standout campaigns for FIFA 16, Star Wars Battlefront and its Black Friday games promotions.


Over the last 12 months Shop Direct has continued to gain market share, finishing 2015 with almost 10 per cent of the hardware market.


Events were held for the likes of Star Wars Battlefront and Batman: Arkham Knight, and 2015 saw the grocery giant launch an innovative E3 promotion.


Last year the firm unveiled its ZBox subscription box scheme, that allows consumers to get their hands on a variety of new and interesting content each month.

The MCV Awards 2016 takes place on March 3rd at the brand new Hilton Bankside Hotel in London,hosted by BBC funnyman Miles Jupp.
